The animals were then visited again by our Year 1 children who are learning about the Savanna habitat. Chloe Traill loved the snow leopard who was lying on his back, Jack Chapman said the giraffe was licking the window which made him laugh and Charlotte Sly wondered why one of the giraffes only had half a tail. All the children looked out for Ralph the penguin who was not wearing his wetsuit as it was too hot!
The Year 4 children enjoyed their trip to Marwell Zoo as part of their learning about sustainability and the effects of deforestation. Kye Cooper and Khan Keles were most impressed by the snow leopards and the ice cream! Faye Roberts was pleased to meet Ralph the penguin who wears a wetsuit due to a shortage of feathers! Morgan Skyrme impressed the keepers with his knowledge about deforestation and how it was affecting bird populations.
Year 1 visited the Spinnaker Tower and the Aspex Art Gallery. They travelled by train from Emsworth to Portsmouth and then did a return trip on the Gosport Ferry. This trip was based on a text, 'Claude in the City' and the children enjoyed an art workshop.

We enjoyed lots of book related activities starting with our big breakfast. Many families attended to share books over croissants, porridge or toast and admire the array of creative costumes!
Year 3 enjoyed 3 days exploring the New Forest.

A huge thank you to the 3 schools who were involved in the organisation and the hours, days, weeks and months of planning that were involved in such a major event. Thank you also to the local community who support the event in many ways and make sure it has an 'Emsworth' feel to it!
As part of the Roman Britain topic, the children in Year 3 spent the day visiting the Novium Museum in Chichester. As well as investigating the artefacts, trying on armour and helmets, seeing the remains of the Chichester Roman baths and discovering more about Roman daily life, they also enjoyed a walk around the city walls.
The children in Year 3 have been enjoying some extra reading with the help of Brandy, the hearing dog. They have loved reading to Brandy, who listens very well!
Our assembly today marked the celebrations this week for the Queen's 90th birthday. Children across the school told us about their royal learning. EY Hedgehogs and Badgers showed us their portraits of the Queen, their union jack bunting and the birthday cards they had made her. Year 1 children have produced some fabulous portraits of the Queen which are up on display. They enjoyed a special birthday tea with cucumber sandwiches and cake and have written very entertaining stories about the Queen losing her hat. Year 2 learnt facts about the Queen and the length of her reign, fitting in very well with their castle unit as their told us about Windsor Castle and how the Royal family chose their surname. Year 3 created models of the key members of the royal family and they arranged them for us in size order in assembly! They had also made union jack bunting. Year 4 applied their art skills work about Andy Warhol to create postage stamps with the Queen's head. They explained what would happen to postage stamps and coins once Prince Charles becomes the King. Year 5 visited the Tower of London this week and saw the crown jewels. They told us about the crown worn by Elizabeth II for her coronation and during the state opening of parliament. They were very impressed by the size of the diamonds and by the thickness of the safe doors! Year 6 designed royal biscuits in crown shapes and then made them. They were absolutely delicious and I am sure the Queen would have approved.
This Thursday Year 4 took a trip to Winchester as part of our Anglo-Saxon Topic. We've been learning all about King Alfred the Great and why in fact his name was so warranted. We're really fortunate to have his capital city right on our doorstep so a visit was an absolute must! First stop was the City Museum where we were met by Robin who gave us a brief introduction and then strait into the investigating. Not many people can say they have held a pot that is over a thousand years old, so you must ask year 4 what if feels (and maybe smells) like. If we weren't investigating the Anglo-Saxon artefact then we were exploring the rest of the museum and finding out what life would have been like for those living in the city all those hundreds of years ago and what clues they have left for us to discover. After the museum we headed over to the education centre at the Cathedral where Emma showed us to our well-deserved lunch. She then took us on an eye opening tour of the cathedral. Its grandeur is awe-inspiring and we all enjoyed the stories of the lost bones of Alfred and St Swithun. You will have to ask the children about the mysterious tiny door... Cheryl then led a series of activities back at the education centre where we illuminated parchment with gold, created silver broaches and deciphered Saxon runes. Each activity designed to reflect King Alfred's devotion to education, Christianity and trade. We had a fabulous day and all of the staff were very proud of the way the children represented the school. We would also like to thank those who supported the visit and the staff at the museum and the cathedral for making it such an engaging and inspiring trip! It is also worth noting that the museum and cathedral are free to enter and well worth a second visit.

Year 1 had a lovely day out at Marwell Zoo as part of their learning about animals who live on the savannahs. They had a picnic and were particularly captivated by the beautiful snow leopards, the sunbathing meerkats and the long necked giraffes.
Year 6 celebrate the end of a successful week and enjoy the sunny weather in the park.
